The Moroccan dirham currency (MAD) can be exchanged only in the country. Import and export of up to 1.000 MAD is allowed. Money exchange is possible at the airport, in all banks and many hotels at the official rate. A dirham has 100 centimes.

Guichets automatiques (ATMs) are now a common sight across Morocco and many accept Visa, MasterCard, Electron, Cirrus, Maestro and InterBank systems. Major credit cards are widely accepted in the main tourist centres, although their use often attracts a surcharge of around 5% from Moroccan businesses. Traveler’s checks are rarely accepted in Morocco.
